Tips for Protecting Your Home

 

While most people care greatly about their home, not everyone does enough to protect them.  Protecting your home is more than just getting a good dead lock.

 

Other important tips for protecting your home are:

  1. Don't leave your spare key in an obvious place, such as under the doormat;
  2. Double-check that all doors and windows are locked;
  3. Trim bushes that obscure the line of sight to windows and other break-in points;
  4. Turn sensor lights on;
  5. Use timer switches for lights, radios, televisions etc. to create the illusion that someone is home;
  6. Leave blinds partially open;
  7. When you are away, have someone check your house, empty your letterbox and bring in your garbage bin; and,
  8. Ensure you have adequate insurance cover.
  9. Install lights at back doors and windows, walkways and garage and basement entrances.
  10.   Link motion sensors to outdoor lighting system so intruders will be exposed instantly.
  11.   Stop mail and newspaper delivery, arrange to have your grass cut andput interior lights on staggered timers.
  12.   Install Grade 2 or higher deadbolts on every entry door.
